National Level
At the national level, the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) operates through a structured framework involving member churches across the 47 counties in Kenya, leadership structures, and specialized committees. Member churches come together to form the General Assembly, the highest decision-making body. Here, key policies, strategies, and constitutional matters are deliberated and approved.
To facilitate its work, the NCCK has established the Executive Committee which is the executive arm of the General Assembly, mandated to undertake general executive functions. NCCK Executive also comprise specialized sub-committees focused on specific areas such as, Programmes, Finance and Administration, and Membership. In addition to the executive organs, the day-to-day function of the council is also supported by a Secretariat headed by the General Secretary. The Secretariat conduct research, develop advocacy strategies, and implement programs aligned with the NCCK’s overarching goals.
Collaboration is a cornerstone of the NCCK’s approach at the national level. It often partners with faith based organizations, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders to amplify its impact and reach. Through partnerships, the NCCK leverages resources, expertise, and networks to address pressing societal challenges more effectively.
Overall, the NCCK’s work at the national level is characterized by a commitment to unity, justice, and holistic development. By fostering collaboration among member churches and engaging with external partners, it plays a vital role in advocating for dignified livelihoods and resilience of communities in Kenya.
The General Assembly
This is the supreme governing body of the Council. It meets once every three years, and brings together delegates from the Membership and the Regions.
The Executive Committee
This is the executive arm of the General Assembly. It consists of representatives of Membership and the Regions, and meets twice a year.
Sub-Committee of the Executive Committtee
The Executive Committee operates through three Sub Committees:
- The Finance and Administration Committee deals with financial, human resource, and administration policy issues.
- The Programme Committee provides policy guidance to the programme work of the Council.
- The Membership Committee manages matters relating to member churches and organisations.
